Creative Sound Projects 5/6

Milo asked us to experiment on Ableton using Slevekings guidance.

I used Ableton and took audio files which had been shared on moodle and decided to experiment with different filters and distortion. I was thinking about using this for one of the sound fx for the project. I adjusted the EQ to create more resonant sound. I added filters to give an ambiance and so that it would make sense in the mix. We didn’t end up using this though.

Project update:

So far the story has been written. the ending i’m not happy with but i ran out of time and the story had to be complete so we could then make the script and pace the music correctly and know what sound effects are needed. I wrote the story using the principles of automatism. I was inspired by the artist Leonara Carrington and the way she writes her stories are almost like a stream of conciousness. I reply on this method in writing as i think it creates a more interesting plot line and sometimes can be more meaningful in some way (not always). I had a starting point and from there just wrote each section in chunks of continuous writing without trying to think too far ahead. I found that the further i got into the story. the harder it was o make quick desicions about the plot and i started to loose trust in everything and take risks like at the beggining. When writing like this i have found that the story goes further and further out and you just have to trust that it will come back in again which it wuold have if i gave it the time but i was already late and so i decided to leave it on a cliff hanger so that it could be continued instead of coming to a rushed conclusion. The music works well and i am excited to hear it all together. We spoke about the kinds of sounds inspired by old eastern European animations and newer films such as ‘Ponyo’. The music follows the narration and depicts emotion and the environment. I have recorded my speaking part as the Fish person. At first i struggled to bring energy to the performance as i couldn’t be in the moment and visualise the actions/speech from an emotional point of view but with some prompts from Adomas who has lead the project i think my performance was okay. I hope we are able to convey the storyline and also hold attention throughout but also not be too overly exaggerated so that it seems like its for little children. The story is’nt aimed at anyone (for e.g children) but it can be appropriate and enjoyable for them.
