Spatial Sound Intro Notes

In this session we looked at spatial sound. We watched a section of the film ‘Gravity’ where spatial sound is used to elevate the tense soundtrack. The use of spatial sound creates a more enhanced experience of listening. You’re able to map sounds to a location through using a surround system of speakers. Adobe Atmos is the most common DAW used to map a spatial sound piece. Spatial sound isn’t just used in Film; It can also enhance live performances.

I was’t able to complete the at home task as i missed this session due to illness but i intent to further explore the possibilities of spatial sound in proformance. An example of spatial sound i remember was the ‘virtual barber’ which was a youtube video I found when I was younger where you put in headphones and it sounds as if the man is really cutting your hair. I used to listen to it to try and sleep as I found it so relaxing. I would like to try and experiment with doing something like this in the future.
